It has long bothered me that I couldn’t watch any embedded Windows Media streams in Firefox. Instead of a video I always just saw a gray box and the message: “Additional plugins are required (…)” There is a plugin alright, and I’ve installed it, too. But even after installation Firefox is still complaining that the plugin is missing. Might that be related to the fact that it dates from 2007?
Now I finally found a solution: Download the latest versions of the files npdsplay.dll, npdrmv2.dll, and npwmsdrm.dll from dlldump.com and copy them to the Firefox plugins directory (for example C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins).:”Windows Media Player(mozillaZine)”:http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_Media_Player#Missing_plugin

After that restart Firefox, and the Media Player plugin should be working!

In the new Firefox 4, my media player plugin was broken again. This time the following DLL file fixed it: np-mswmp.dll. Hat bei mir (Windows 7 64bit, Firefox 4.0.1) leider nichts gebracht.
Danke hat bei mir mit Win 7 64 bit und Firefox 5 wunderbar funktioniert. Suche auf C:\ nach Mozilla bringt den Ordner Mozilla Plugins, dort hineinkopieren und passt sofort beim nächsten Neustart von Firefox. Hatte vorher allerdings das WMP Plugin manuell installiert, jedoch ohne diese dll kein Erfolg. Direkt vom Download in diesen Ordner speichern funktionierte nicht, erst anderweitig speichern, dann dort hineinkopieren.
Ja, stimmt. Möglicherweise ist das die Lösung für die, bei denen es immer noch nicht klappt: Man muss vielleicht wirklich beides installieren, das Plugin und die DLL. So habe ich es nämlich auch gemacht, wenn ich mich recht entsinne: Erst das Plugin versucht, und als es dann noch nicht ging, zusätzlich die DLL(s) geladen. Also: Einfach beides mal versuchen! ;)

Ja. Nur das Problem ist ja, wie bereits beschrieben, dass das Ding von 2007 ist und bei mir (und anderen anscheinend auch) nicht mehr funktioniert. Erst, wenn man die neueren DLLs manuell runterlädt und installiert, klappt es.

greetings from New Zealand. Thanks for the posting on WMP/Firefox plug-ins. I have just installed WMP12 on my laptop and retrieved my music files, some of which are protected.
I tried the normal windows media services plug-in for firefox and have just finished installing all the additional .dll files that you suggested, but I am still getting the error message “Error: your Netscape browser does not have “Microsoft® Windows Media Services” plug-ins installed.”
Any suggestions?

Durch Google bin ich auf deinen Blog gestoßen, weil mich das Problem mit dem WMP schon seit Wochen nervt und nichts funktionieren wollte, trotz intensiver Googlesuche war nie das richtige dabei. Bis jetzt. Denn dein 2. Tipp war Gold wert. Endlich kann ich wieder Videos gucken in Firefox 8. DANKE!
