Als ich gestern so an meinen zwei Posts herumkritzelte, blieb mein Blick plötzlich auf der Statusleiste meines Firefox hängen. Dort befindet sich nämlich das Addon „Google PageRank Status“, das einem den aktuellen Google-PageRank der Seiten anzeigt, auf die man surft. Der PageRank ist kurz gesagt ein Wert, der die Popularität einer Seite angibt. Er kann zwischen 0 (unpopulär) und 10 (sehr populär) liegen.

While I was scribblig my two posts yesterday, my eye suddenly got caught by the status bar of my Firefox. That is where the addon „Google PageRank Status“ is located, which shows you the current Google PageRank of the sites you are surfing to. In short, the PageRank is a value that indicates the popularity of a website. It can lie between 0 (unpopular) and 10 (very popular).

Bisher hatte meine Seite immer einen PageRank von 0. Das war auch nicht weiter verwunderlich, denn mein Blog ist nicht unbedingt der umfangreichste, und auch von den Themen her ist er nicht gerade ein Publikumskracher. Des weiteren habe ich keinerlei Anstrengungen unternommen, es durch Suchmaschinenoptimierung, Linktausch, Gästebuchspam oder ähnliche Maßnahmen bekannter zu machen.
Umso mehr hat es mich verwundert, da plötzlich eine Eins zu erblicken. Und umso stolzer kann ich auf sie sein, denn sie ist zu 100% echt und „natürlich gereift“. ;)

Jetzt mögen vielleicht manche denken: „Mein Gott, ist die Alte bescheuert, freut sich ’nen Ast ab wegen ’nem popeligen PageRank von 1!“ – Ja, ich weiß, daß das weder viel ist noch etwas Besonderes darstellt. Vermutlich hat jede zweite Seite im Internet diesen Rang. Andererseits hat z. B. die deutsche Google-Seite www.google.de einen PageRank von 8. Und zu einem Achtel so populär zu sein wie das deutsche Google ist doch eigentlich schon eine ganze Menge! :)

Previously, my site had always had a PageRank of 0. That wasn’t any wonder, because my blog is not the most comprehensive one and, as for the subjects, it isn’t exactly a crowd puller either. Furthermore, I haven’t made any efforts to make it public by means of search engine optimization, link exchange, guestbook spam or similar measures.
All the more I was surprised to spot a one there suddenly. And all the more I can be proud of it, for it is 100% real and „naturally ripened“. ;)

Some of you may now think: „My God, is she stupid, thrilled to bits about a measly PageRank of 1!“ – Yes, I know that is neither much nor anything special. I suppose, every second site on the internet has that rank. On the other hand, the German Google page www.google.de has a PageRank of 8. And to be an eighth as popular as the German Google is a good deal after all, I think! :)
