Some users of the (otherwise excellent) VLC media player<\/a> experience a small problem that I’ve suffered from, too, until recently: At every start of the player, a pop-up window appears with the message “Building font cache” and the information that this process can take up to a minute. Normally, this message should only appear very rarely (or even only at the very first start?). But as I said, this doesn’t work for many people, and so they must always wait before they can watch a video. This sucks of course!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Now I’ve finally found a solution in a forum<\/a>:<\/p>\r\n\r\n

VLC player - Options<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n

  1. in VLC player, click on “Tools” → “Settings”<\/li>\r\n
  2. on the bottom left select “All” to make all options visible<\/li>\r\n
  3. in the submenu of “Video”, go to “Subtitles\/OSD”<\/li>\r\n
  4. select the “dummy font rendering function” from the “text renderer module” drop-down list<\/li>\r\n
  5. press “Save”<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n
