Lately I was sitting in front of the television, watching an episode of the 90s sitcom series “Step by Step” when suddenly and unexpectedly someone burst in who actually didn’t belong there: John Stamos, better known as “Uncle Jesse” from the series “Full House”. After his five second guest appearance had ended and Dana and Karen had stopped screaming the guts out of their young bodies, I gave it a thought: Actually this guy has absolute superstar potential – and even if he was the lousiest actor of the world, his enchanting appearance should usually make up for that. Works for other stars, too. So why do you never see John Stamos in real cinema films with all-star cast?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

I would have expected that the role in “Full House” would be something like his discovery, his big breakthrough, and that he’d work his way up to the tops of the acting elite. Just like George Clooney. Because the latter I just recently discovered in an episode of “The Golden Girls” and a few days later again in “Roseanne”. The then totally unknown and rather ugly curly head that played minor roles there, today is one of the best known and best paid actors of the world thanks to his breakthrough with “Emergency Room”, and three billion women are slobbering at his feet.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Well, Stamos, wouldn’t that be something? But I don’t want to be unfair. As appears from his imdb page<\/a>, he has not been idle at all. But many of his films were American TV productions that possibly didn’t even make it across the ocean and into the German program – and if they did, it happened quite unobtrusively. His numerous appearances on American talk shows don’t usually get to be seen on this continent either.
\r\n\r\nWhat I find interesting is the title “I Am Stamos”<\/a>, an 18-minute comedy in which Hollywood and its fixation on appearance are taken for a ride. I found the film in English on YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

As it turned out, Stamos is mentioned in the same breath as George Clooney in the film as well. And to put the lid on the synchronicity, Stamos is acting in “Emergency Room” as Dr. Tony Gate since 2005. The hairdo has also changed towards Clooney already. The only difference: Stamos started playing doctor when he was 42, while Clooney put on the stethoscope at the tender age of 33 already. So in terms of figures, Stamos lags nine years behind. Nevertheless, maybe this will finally become the kick-off for the great Hollywood career. It would be desirable anyhow, because sooner or later at least the female part of the earth’s population will be in urgent need of a junior Clooney!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n

After rereading I become aware that Stamos is actually only two years younger that Clooney – so the expression “junior” is not exactly suitable. ;)<\/p>\r\n<\/ins>\r\n\r\n\r\n

I am speechless. Actually it was only coincidence that I brought up Clooney for comparison with Stamos, and the many parallels that I subsequently found had surprised me anyway.
