First arena experiences

Thursday, 8th October 2009 by Ginchen

A few days ago, we quickly searched a group for the Sha’tar dungeons, which is done much faster nowadays thanks to dual spec, because everybody can fulfill two completely different tasks in case of need. After one Mechanar and Botanica run, we were “honored” and thereby now have the complete blue PvP set. I also upgraded my Mooncleaver to a Bloodmoon – no problem thanks to our vast fortune. Equipped in this manner, we dared to enter the arena for the first time!

First of all, we wondered about our rating of – 0? Ah, yes, right, they had introduced a new system sometime, so you now start from zero instead of 1500 … Apparently we hadn’t played a single arena game since then. :D Well, we have to play up then first – I guess it won’t be bad anyway, if we first get totally crappy opponents while accustoming ourselves. We decided to take it slow and only played twelve games, ten of which we won. That already gave us a rating of 310 – so it doesn’t seem to take very long until you have played up.

Sexay!

Sexay!

Afterwards we decided that wie needed stylish tabards and flew to Shadowmoon Valley to fight the Battle of the Crimson Watch. When we had tried the quest some time ago, it had still been a little too hard for us. With our current equipment, however, it was rather easy. Coldinchen received a green tabard, while I got a purple one. :)

The next day, we happily continued playing in the arena against people with awe-inspiring names like “Peacecow” or “Kingbenny”, whose guild name “Is Invincible” we simply reduce to absurdity. Unfortunately we had to stop after seven victorious games and a rating of 527, because it started to lag, and the waiting times became unbearably long as well.

So we went to Stratholme instead, just for fun, where we did the achievement, got ourselves each a Key to the City and collected a few Righteous Orbs, which still bring some good money these days. And finally, we found out what we have to do, should we ever feel the urge to gain reputation with the Argent Dawn (see picture).

Today we did another eleven arena matches to round off to 30. One time, I stupidly signed up again too early, when Coldinchen wasn’t outside yet. Thus I was all alone all alone pitted against an absolutely bad team consisting of a Shadow Priest and a Hunter. We had already mixed it with them a few times before – they really played unforgivingly bad. So I almost managed to kill them both – but at the end, the Hunter survived by a hairbreadth. :( After that, we lost two times against a Warlock and a Holy Paladin, who both had complete epic equipment; from Serpentshrine Cavern to the Black Temple and The Eye to Zul’Aman, everything was there. Nevertheless, we kept them in check quite well. We decided that we didn’t have to be ashamed of these losses. ;)
We’re at 25 : 5 now altogether, which means a win ratio of 80 % (at a rating of 767). We’ll see how long we can keep that up … *g*
