Time travel to the 60s!

Time and again I am startled to realize that most people my age have never heard of some of the grooviest sounds of the 60s. Yes, sure, everybody knows “Yellow Submarine”, “Respect”, “Blowing in the Wind” and “Leaving on a Jetplane”. But folks, there’s more to it than that!
Therefore I want to throw a few selected crumbs of musical general knowledge into this gaping, soundless, dead chasm in education – because often it can’t be labeled as a small “gap” anymore. Some are better known, others less. Enjoy learning!

Two of the songs weren’t available in full length on last.fm, so I’ll add a YouTube player here:

Update (10 May, 2009)

Added “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” by the Beatles.
